An Interview With

Associate Pastor | Jhason Smith

Married to the ever so beautiful and incredibly talented Brittany Smith and proud Dad to Jadwin & Aslan - I am a Nashville native and have been serving as the leader of Eastgate's youth ministry since 2009. I am thoroughly passionate about music and am a musician and songwriter, mainly utilizing these abilities in Eastgate's worship ministry. I'm a big sports buff - whether participating or spectating - and among other hobbies, I'm somewhat of a gear head when it comes to car repairs! I love our church and am very excited about the years ahead of us.

What quality/trait do you admire most?

Patience, humility, passion and boldness.

Annoyances:

I am TOO ticklish. People find this hilarious. Me, not so much. Also, being interrupted in the middle of completing a task.

Most traumatic experience:

Almost drowning in the ocean on a school beach trip my junior year in high school. Also, rebuilding my '92 Honda Civic's transmission.

Favourite Websites:

partsgeek.com, www.facebook.com, blueletterbible.com, youtube.com

Some of your biggest mistakes:

I don't have many regrets, but most of mine consist of being fearful and not stepping out when God has called me to.

Favourite Vacation Spot:

The beach is nice, but honestly I enjoy a good road trip. It doesn't have to be a fancy destination. Anywhere with my wife that involves having no agenda and eating copious amounts of food is the ultimate vacation ;)

Dream Job:

Would love to write worship music that could help people understand the life-changing love that the Father has for them. Would also love to pastor a church one day.

Favorite TV shows, Books or Movies:

TV Shows: The Office, ESPN and basically any professional sports game thats on.

Books: Mere Christianity, A Tale of Three Kings, The Shack, Alpha: Questions of Life.

Movies: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Count of Monte Cristo, Space Jam - to name a few.

Pastimes:

Getting to spend time with the people in my life, writing music, ULTIMATE FRISBEE, bass and acoustic guitar and running - when there's time.

Music:

Hillsong United, Bethel, Jude Smith, Coldplay, Jack Johnson, John Mayer TRIO, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver,

Favourite Food:

Burger Up is the BOMB. Get the Woodstock!

An Interview with

Associate Pastor | Brittany Smith

Brittany Smith is a creative through and through. She has been singing since the age of 3, and started her own wedding & event business, Inspired Help, in 2014. As the worship and youth co-pastor, she leads Eastgate in connecting with the heart of God through worship each Sunday and mentors the youth each Friday. With her background in event design, she oversees the “look” of Eastgate from the stage decor to the info brochures. Brittany knew from the age of 12 that she would marry a pastor’s son and be a pastor’s wife but she didn’t realize that when she felt a pull from the Lord to move from Texas to Nashville in 2010, God was moving her into position for precisely that! She married Jhason in 2013 and in 2018 they have two sons Jadwin & Aslan. She never thought she would be a pastor herself, but in 2016 she was ordained in recognition of the shepherding she was already doing in her roles at Eastgate.

What quality/trait do you admire most?

People who work hard with a consistently positive attitude - now that’s an amazing person!

Annoyances:

Noises. I loathe the sound of people chewing, styrofoam shifting against another object, and pretty much any annoyingly repetitive, or abrasive sound. I’m cringing just thinking about it.

Most traumatic experience:

One pretty traumatic experience took place once when I was getting out of my husband’s no-frills Honda Civic. I was closing the door with my hand under the window seal, oblivious to the fact that he was rolling up the window. He finished rolling up the windows and turned off the car, and all I could do was yell, over and over, until he realized my fingers were stuck in the window, then he had to turn on the car and roll down the window, allowing me to yank my fingers out and fall face down on the front lawn. It was terrible. He felt so terrible.

Favourite Websites:

inspiredhelp.com, greenweddingshoes.com, facebook.com, instagram.com

Some of your biggest mistakes:

Saying I would never drive a van.... hahahaha

Favourite Vacation Spot:

Anywhere that includes me sitting next to my husband eating wonderful food with our phones put away.

Dream Job:

My dream job comes in a few different parts. I would love to grow my business to the point that I am solely focused as the business owner and overseer of events and weddings. I'd also love to pursue music full time. I feel very strongly that the Lord has called me to change the way this generation worships and to lead them in deeper and more intimate way, and I believe one day I will be able to do just that. The last component would be pastoring a church with Jhason full time: impacting the broken, addicted, and lost, inspiring them with hope for the next day and introducing them to the only source of lasting hope: Jesus.

Favourite TV shows, Books or Movies:

"The Office", "You've Got Mail", "The Preachers Wife" (seriously, Whitney Houston is amazing), "The Notebook", "Phantom of the Opera", pretty much anything that has a sweet sappy story line or is musically driven.

Pastimes:

Sleep! I love sleep. Also creating beautiful things, and most of all eating delicious food.

Music:

It's such a variety: Aretha Franklin, Bethel, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Coldplay, Jennifer Hudson, Bethel, Hillsong United, Adele, Lauren Daigle, Jude Smith, Cameron Noel, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Tyler Walea, Joy Williams, Outpost Worship (if I can be a fan haha)… I could go on for days.

Favourite Food:

I love Indian food, Mexican food, Greek food, and mac and cheese. Oh, and Burger Up - if you're in Nashville it is a must go! Also I HATE peanut butter.
